THE POWER OF JESUS’ NAME

J. A. Lovell

I HAVE MADE a great many precious discoveries of new Bible truths and Divine revelations during my many years of ministry but I am quite frank to state that the truth I am writing about just now, aside from salvation and the Israel Identity message, has meant more to me and brought me greater joy, more power, than any other one thing I have ever discovered in my Christian life.

We people who teach the Kingdom Message must never be guilty of what we accuse our opponents, that of feeling we know all there is to know and that there is no more revelation to be had. Meekness and humility are two of the greatest characteristics a Christian can possess. I want to always have both of these qualities so that I may continue my search for truth and be willing to recognize truth when I see it and be bold enough to declare it once I have found it.

The age in which we are living is one that is marked with power. The automobiles that are most sought after are those which have the most power. Airplanes that are the most sought after by the major commercial airlines are those which have the greatest power. The atomic bomb has helped us all to be conscious of power, however, I want the reader to know that the power potential found in the atomic bomb, the biggest planes and the finest automobiles, is nothing by comparison when one considers the power which is contained in the amazing, dramatic, miraculous name of Jesus!

When one singles out the name of Jesus and begins to emphasize its importance and power, he is always met with the assertion that it doesn't make any difference what we call Jesus just so we refer to Him in one of the many ways He is referred to, in both the Old and New Testaments. Such a statement is truly superficial. If Jesus had not wanted us to call Him by His true name, He wouldn't have stressed the matter as much as He did. I know how irked I become when I am called by some names and certain titles, particularly when the people using them are not using them in their proper relationship, for instance, I have some nephews and nieces who refer to me as Parson instead of using the title of Uncle. Frankly, these relatives have failed to receive several little tokens and gifts they would have received had they used the proper title. A few times my young son has referred to me as "Pop,” but upon seeing how it displeased me, he refrained from using such an expression. I have many titles, such as, son, son-in-law, father, husband, editor, broadcaster, director, pastor, but I have only one name-- John Alvin Lovell. If it irks us for people to use titles in referring to us, which they are not supposed to use, or if it makes us feel badly for people to call us by some name other than our true name, wouldn’t you feel that it might also might affect the amount of blessings we receive from Jesus Christ and also our relationship with Him, as to the name we use in addressing Him?

Upon seriously considering the matter, people usually become interested and then ask the question, "Well, what is His real name?" The matter is answered Scripturally in the following verse: Matt. 1:21, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins." In this verse there can be no question as to the name of Jesus. Remember, this name is not to be confused with His many titles, such as, The Everlasting Father, Almighty God, Son of David, Bright and Morning Star, Lily of the Valley, Rose of Sharon, Lion of the Tribe of Judah, King of kings and Lord of lords.

In the following paragraphs, without seeking to be dramatic, fanatic, or controversial, it is my sincere aim to show how we are to properly use the name of Jesus, how much power and majesty there is in this lovely name and the blessings we receive, in the various relationships, if we magnify the precious name of Jesus, our Saviour, Healer, Redeemer, Comforter and coming King.

SALVATION

Not only is there power in Jesus' name, there is salvation in His wonderful name, accomplished, of course, by our faith in His shed blood.

One would think the whole world would be glad to accept the fact that it is only by Christ Jesus we are able to obtain salvation unto eternal life but, due to present-day modernism, we find virtually every religion has its own way of salvation. In some instances, groups substitute the church instead of Christ, as a means of salvation; others believe the sacrament of the church represents salvation, rather than Jesus the Christ; others emphasize Jesus' Mother as a means of salvation; while many others don't even believe in the New Birth, therefore, they do not offer any plan of salvation whatsoever.

The truth is, the Bible gives the only means of salvation that has ever been; there is today, or ever will be in all the world. That means is through the name of Jesus, Acts 4:10-12, "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in nay other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
